Joachim Rumstadt

Joachim Rumstadt is the former CEO of STEAG GmbH and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of STEAG New Energies GmbH. STEAG is one of the largest Germany power companies with over 7GW of installed capacity globally. Rumstadt studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. After a legal clerkship, he became a consultant for international and European law at the Research Institute of the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer (DHV). In 1997, he joined STEAG AG in Essen as legal counsel, later heading STEAG’s executive office and risk management departments. In 2007, Rumstadt was appointed to the Executive Board of Evonik Steag GmbH. In 2009, he was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of the fifth-largest German power producer Evonik Steag GmbH, which was renamed STEAG GmbH in 2011. Over his career, Rumstadt has served on the board of drilling company Daldrup & Soehne AG and miner RAG AG amongst others, as well as being an advisory board member to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
